I am teaching at Turkish German University in Istanbul at the Faculty for Cultural and Social Sciences, working before as director for training and development at the Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin Research Foundation for the History of Science in Islam, a post I took up in September 2011. While teaching cultural studies, history of science, media history, heritage and museum Studies, I am focusing currently on the history of anthropogeography, scientific traveling and traveling knowledge. Enslavement based plantation systems (cotton, sugar, coffee) and its contributions to the rise of Bremen as an early European port and trading town and its museal representation is one current subject of research and teaching.

As a member of the editorial board of the book series Islamic Philosophy and Occidental Phenomenology I am motivated to contribute to a New Enlightenment and to a dialogue of cultures and spiritualities.
